Day 1. Fly to Sao Paulo
Fly from London Heathrow to Sao Paulo on the overnight flight.
Day 2 Fly to Porto Seguro.
After clearing customs and collecting your bags, you will need to make your way to the domestic section for your connecting flight to Porto Seguro. Met on arrival and transferred to the Pousada Estrela d’agua for 4 nights in a suite on a b&b basis. Afternoon free for personal exploration.
Days 3-5. In Trancoso
At Estrela d’agua, free for personal exploration and relaxation.
Day 6. Fly to Salvador
Met and transferred to the airport for your flight to Salvador. Met on arrival and transfer to the Convento do Carmo hotel for 3 nights in a deluxe room on a b&b basis. Afternoon free for personal exploration.
Days 7-8. In Salvador
In Salvador. One of Brazil’s most historic cities with a strong African Influence. The city centre is a mix of old, modern, rich and poor and is a fascinating place to explore. We would suggest a city tour today to give you some orientation of the city including a visit to the Sao Marcelo fortress and the Modelo handicraft market.
Day 9. Transfer to Chapada Diamantina
Met and transferred to the bus station for your bus to Lencois (5 ½ hrs). Met on arrival and transferred to the Canto Das Aguas hotel for the night in a room with a view of the rapids on a b&b basis. Met in the afternoon for your drive and walk to Morro do Pai Inácio (Father Inácio's Hill) to watch the sunset. From here you have some of the most spectacular views of Chapada, with a series of flat mountains that are so characteristic of this landscape. Return to Lençóis.
Day 10. In Chapada Diamantina
After breakfast drive to Capao for your full day (6hrs) walk (12km) to the Cachoeira da Fumaça (Smoke Falls) - 340m drop. The wind sprays the water and even carries it upwards, forming a curtain of droplets - thus the name "smoke". Lunch box (included). Transfer to the Capão Valley and the Pousada Vale do Capão for the night on a full board basis.
Day 11. In Chapada Diamantina After breakfast, begin one of the most beautiful treks in the National Park. It’s about 15km until Guiné – a samll village. During the trek you pass through the beautiful altitude fields “Gerais do Vieira” and "Ruinha". You will have views throughout the day of the Capao and Pati Valley’s, the latter is considered to be one of the most beautiful Valley’s in Brazil. Lunch box (included). On arrival at Ginue drive to Mucugê. Overnight at Pousada Mucugê, on a full board basis.
Day 12. In Chapada Diamantina
Transfer to the south of the National Park of Chapada Diamantina to Ibicoara to see of the most beautiful places at Chapada. “Cachoeira do Buracão” (Big Hole Waterfall) drops 100 metres and is only accessible by swimming through a narrow canyon. Following lunch return to the top of the falls where you can swim under waterfalls and natural swimming pools of the river. Transfer to Igatu and the Pousada Pedras de Igatu for 2 nights on a b&b basis.
Day 13. In Chapada Diamantina
After breakfast drive to Poço Encantado (Enchanted Pool), One of the most visited places in Chapada. Situated underground in a limestone cave is the pool of crystal clear blue water. The pool is around 100m long and 50m wide, and with a maximum depth of 61m. Between April and the beginning of September, especially in June and July, sunrays reach the surface of the pool, which gives it an even more magic atmosphere. Continue to Poco Azul, where you have the chance to swim in a clear water cave. Return to Pedras de Igatu in the mid afternoon. Remainder of the afternoon can be spent exploring this fascinating town made completely of local stone.
Day 14. In Chapada Diamantina
Met and transferred to Foz do Roncondar, the start of the Chapada ‘Pantanal’ where you will board a local canoe and transferred through the intricate river system, where you will spot a range of wildlife and migratory birds. Met at the northern end and transferred to the Canto das Aguas Pousada in Lencois.
Day 15. Transfer to Fazenda da Lagoa
Met and transferred to the bus station for your bus to Salvador. Met on arrival and transferred to the airport for your internal flight to Ilheus. Met on arrival and transferred to the Fazenda da Lagoa hotel for 4 nights in a deluxe bungalow with an ocean view on a b&b basis.
days 16-18. At Fazenda da Lagoa
The hotel has a variety of activities, all of which can be booked and paid for locally.
Day 19. Fly London
Met and transfer to the airport for your flight to Sao Paulo, where you will connect with your return international overnight flight to London arriving the following day.
As a guideline, the itinerary outlined above would cost approximately £2,920 per person and includes all activities on a private basis, accommodation and taxes, entrance fees, private transfers and meals where mentioned.
In addition the cost of your international flights and your internal flights in Brazil is approximately £1,100 per person including U.K. taxes.
